Kourtney Kardashian Isn't Happy With Food Served at Her Kids' School

Kourtney Kardashian’s speaking out about the food served up at her kids’ school — and she admits she’s not pleased with the quality. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star penned a post for her own lifestyle blog, Poosh (think Goop, Kardashian style), encouraging readers to use their voices to stand up for what they believe in, especially when it comes to their children.

Kourtney Kardashian has never been the most vocal of the Kardashian squad, but she’s been the most outspoken when it comes to her passion for healthy food. She wrote in her Poosh post, “I’ve found that simply using my voice to stand up for small changes that add up to big impacts is so effective at not only creating change, but setting an example for my children.” She added, “I may not be the loudest or the most aggressive, but I’ve never been one to stand by and watch something I disagree with unfold.”

Kardashian shares three children — Mason, 9, Penelope, 7, and Reign, 4 — with her ex, Scott Disick. The two are amiable co-parents (even inspiring her sister Khloe to ask them for coparenting advice).

Recently, when Kourtney saw the questionable food served at her children’s school (lots of processed food, wilted, non-organic produce), Kardashian decided it was time to act.

“As moms, it’s in our power to raise some awareness and rally for healthier options… I wasn’t satisfied with the food being served at my kids’ school, so I made sure that the principal knew my concerns,” she said. “And I’ve continued to offer my two cents on everything from the type of milk they serve to their use of single-use plastic.”

The Poosh lifestyle brand creator confessed she worries that her complaints “may seem annoying,” but the matter is too important to her for her to stay quiet.

“I’m doing it for my children and their futures,” Kardashian stated. She also noted in her Poosh post that other concerned parents can get involved by starting petitions related to food at school, or pledging to make less waste as families. “Dialogue picks up momentum, and momentum stirs change… I’m constantly sharing with my kids the importance of sustainability. While sometimes it feels like it’s ‘too late’ for my own generation… we can form a new generation that is raised in awareness about the state of the world — a generation with fundamental values that promote sustainability.”

Kardashian never goes anywhere without her own Poosh water bottle (you can have one too, $20 of proceeds goes to Oceana to protect oceans from plastic pollution), and she utilizes reusable snack baggies and food wraps made from beeswax. She also encourages places she frequents to get rid of plastic straws and to use biodegradable utensils made from corn.

“It may seem like change is out of your reach, but truly it’s within all of our grasp. I practice using my voice in my community in an effort to make improvements in our environment and health,” she said in the Poosh post, “and I truly feel like bringing my kids into the mission is the legacy I can leave behind.”
