The study, authored by academic experts from two universities of Halle-Wittenberg University and the Institute of max Rubner (Germany) presented new data on the beneficial properties of cocoa. It turned out that cocoa beans contribute to the development of valuable to the body of nutrient.
Scientists discovered that the dried cocoa beans after being in the sun transformerait vitamin D as D2, being an active participant of metabolism and a regulator of the processes of absorption of such important minerals as calcium and phosphorus. D2 is one of the forms of vitamin D formed by the impact of ultraviolet radiation on ergosterol. A lack of vitamin D2 in the human body contributes to the development of respiratory diseases, rickets, osteoporosis.
“Vitamin D2 is in the cocoa butter and the dark chocolate and the lowest amount we found in white chocolate”, told the authors.
According to scientists, daily consumption of chocolate reduces blood pressure, lowers cholesterol levels, strengthens blood vessels and is an excellent preventative measure against the development of cardiovascular diseases. However, as noted Professor of medicine Gabriele Stangl, many people do not get enough vitamin in the winter months when there is little sunlight.
Scientists plan to further explore the beneficial properties of cocoa, which, in their opinion, “contains additional secondary plant substances” that can be valuable to the body.
Earlier Magicforum wrote that scientists had detected unusual ability of apples to influence people’s health.
