How the liver affects our mood

The French call the liver “gland mood” for a reason. Scientists from Edinburgh University for 10 years studying the status of this body from 165 thousand volunteers. It turned out that liver disease is more often suffered by people who were in a state of depression or chronic stress.

Why is this happening?

The liver is one of the main systems in the human body. If she’s not healthy, failures occur throughout the body. In particular, in the brain: when the liver stops filtering the blood properly, toxins start to poison him. There is a headache, insomnia, chronic fatigue, depression.

A study by American scientists showed that these symptoms people don’t usually associate with liver, even if they know that it they are not healthy. What can we say about those who are not even aware of their problems: the liver has no nerve endings, therefore it cannot “tell” about being sick. Symptoms such as fatigue and depression, people blamed on problems at work or in private life, but not in the liver. Hardly anyone comes into my head to check the liver with insomnia and mood swings. Meanwhile, up to 30% of Russia’s adult population suffer from diseases of this organ.

When to sound the alarm?

In addition to changes in mood, problems with the liver can say the following symptoms: weakness, discomfort and heaviness in the right hypochondrium, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, diarrhea, unpleasant taste in the mouth, swelling, fever, pale stool, yellowish tinge to the eyes.

If you are concerned about something of the above, contact your physician or hepatologist.

How to prevent liver disease?

The liver can get sick for various reasons: due to abuse of alcohol and drugs, viruses and bacteria, due to obesity and improper nutrition. Therefore, the best prevention is a healthy lifestyle:

  • A sense of proportion when alcohol (or better – a complete rejection of it);
  • quitting Smoking;
  • active lifestyle;
  • good hygiene;
  • lack of stress.

However, all these measures cannot guarantee you a healthy liver: there are too many negative factors in the external environment have on his action. In addition, some diseases (e.g., steatosis) begin asymptomatic. Therefore, adults are recommended to be tested: it is possible to go to any clinic and the doctor will prescribe the necessary tests.

Specific diet to the liver does not exist. However, proper nutrition can to help her recover.
