New test for compatibility of blood groups approved by the FDA

Management on control over foodstuff and medicines USA (FDA) approved molecular test ID CORE XT, which is designed to determine the compatibility of blood of donor and recipient. This test allows you to define recipients and donors not only blood, but also for genotyping antigens of blood erythrocytes.

ID CORE XT is the second molecular test, which was approved by the FDA for medical purposes. However, this is the first test that gives information about the genotypes.

We remind our readers that in 2014, the FDA allowed the use of molecular test for blood compatibility Molecular BeadChip Test that allows you to somehow define the antigenic profile of red blood cells. The accuracy of this test is higher than in standard tests.

Director of the Center for biological evaluations and research, FDA Peter Marx saysthat the emergence of such a test will significantly simplify the procedure of blood donors and recipients.

Test ID CORE XT helps to simplify compatibility testing of blood, giving us an alternative to testing blood using antibodies.

Why DNA tests are better than antibodies

For the determination of proteins are widely used antibodies which specifically bind to specific proteins, and then on a special device we can see the result is binding of the protein with the antibody. Such analyses are time-consuming, and most importantly they are expensive because the antibodies are expensive.

With the advent of the PCR technique (polymerase chain reaction) in real time, the researchers got the opportunity to not detect the protein and its RNA. As is well known, for protein synthesis initially, the nucleus of the cell copies the gene of the protein. These copies of genes (RNA) can then serve as a matrix for protein synthesis. Therefore, if the biological fluid includes RNA protein, so it has and protein.

36 blood group and antigenic profile

Few people know about this, but as of 2018 discovered as many as 36 systems of blood groups. Of course, in the practice of medicine for a blood transfusion the most important are the ABO system and RH factor, however, and other groups neglected and not worth it.

Traditionally, the antigen of erythrocytes are detected serologically using antibodies. This includes the use of blood serum containing antibodies to the target antigens. However, such studies have certain limitations, including those that were mentioned above. Test ID CORE XT faster and more effectively determines the antigenic profile based on the analysis of DNA.
