Impossible Beauty Standards: Models Wore Three Breasts at Milan Fashion Week

Ah, fashion month. It's the time of year when designers around the world show off their most exciting new styles for the upcoming season — and in some cases, their most questionable. The frontrunner for this year's most surprising runway look? That would be the three-breasted models that came down the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week.

Italian streetwear brand GCDS (which stands for "God Can't Destroy Streetwear") decked out its models in bike shorts, sports bras, and a set of three prosthetic breasts. In an interview with WWD, the GCDS's creative director, Giuliano Calza, revealed that the look, reminiscent of a character in Total Recall, was meant to give the show a dystopian feel — as if all of the computers in the world crashed and society was transported back to the olden days. There was also some color inspiration drawn from Pokemon, which explains some of the contrasting brights.

“We’re a young group here — we’re all under 30 — and I wanted to talk to people our age about the future and get them thinking about plastics, water shortage and the environment. Full sustainability is impossible, and I wanted this show to be a wake-up call,” he said. While I'm not totally sure I understood the message at first glance, I have to admit, the show certainly succeeds at grabbing attention.

This is the second time in recent history that prosthetic body parts have showed up on the runway in the name of making a statement. During men's fashion week earlier this year, male models at the Xander Zhou show walked the runway with fake pregnant bellies to show that the brand is "prepared to welcome a future of male pregnancy."

At least, now, one thing is for sure: We now know that the catwalk-approved answer to the question, "What am I supposed to wear with bike shorts?" is apparently a third boob.
