White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced Sunday that she has tested positive for a breakthrough case of COVID-19 but had not been near President Joe Biden since at least Tuesday.
Psaki said she decided not to travel with the president overseas on Wednesday after several members of her household tested positive. After testing negative for COVID-19 for four straight days, Psaki said that her test today came back positive.
“While I have not had close contact in person with the President or senior members of the White House staff since Wednesday — and tested negative for 4 days after that last contact — I am disclosing today’s positive test out of an abundance of transparency,” Psaki said in a statement. “I last saw the president on Tuesday, when we sat outside more than 6-feet apart, and wore masks.”
Psaki said she has had only mild symptoms and continues to work from home. If she tests negative after a 10-day quarantine, she said she will return to the White House.
