The innovations of Ukrainian cardiac surgery in the clinic Dobrobut

September 19, held a press conference the medical network Dobrobut on the subject a Year later. Outcomes and achievements the first private cardiac surgery in Ukraine. At the conference, talked about the successes developed in Ukraine minimally invasive bypass surgery and financial aspects of Russian cardiac surgery.

Ukrainian breakthrough in cardiac surgery

At the world Congress of cardiac surgeons, which was held on 15 September in Ljubljana, appreciated the innovative development of the Ukrainian multi-vessel coronary artery bypass grafting using miniinvasive access. Unique low-impact technique was developed by the Ukrainian heart surgeon Alexander Babiak in the walls of the clinic Dobrobut. This is unprecedented in the history of private medical practice in Ukraine. The world medical community has expressed great interest to this method of operating and already adopts the experience of their Ukrainian colleagues.

Our newspaper already repeatedly wrote about the unique method of multi-vessel coronary artery bypass surgery, thanks to which many patients without complications had surgery. This time we were interested in the financial side of this question, which fully covered the Director of a network of clinics Dobrobut Oleg Kalashnikov.

Operation in Ukraine 5 times cheaper

Oleg Kalashnikov said that such heart surgery in Dobrobut medical network is about 170 thousand hryvnias. You may find that a lot, given the financial situation of the Ukrainians today. However, I assure you that the operation with this method in any European country will cost the patient a minimum of 25 thousand euros. We’re doing an operation in an average of 5 thousand euros. At the same time, I can assure you that the volume of investments is the same as in the West. We also buy equipment, drugs, tools, and your operating provides everything necessary to conduct such interventions. And given the logistics and customs fees for us equipment even out more. In addition, increase the cost of the operation itself, so to keep these prices becomes more difficult, – said Oleg Kalashnikov.

Staff shortages challenge for Ukrainian medicine

During the Conference we discussed the outflow of personnel abroad. As you know, Ukrainian doctors massively master medical markets of Eastern Europe, where they are happy to take on work for wages several times higher than Ukrainian.

Oleg Kalashnikov notes that in such conditions actually have to compete with employers of Eastern Europe, which features a lot more than we do. Naturally, in such conditions to keep a skilled frame in my clinic, we pay him a good salary, but the prices for transactions are low compared with European countries. This is one of the main reasons why investing in the medical sector of Ukraine are risky. They will continue to be risky until the citizen of Ukraine has to pay for such treatment out of pocket.

We look with hope that in 2020 when it will start the reform of secondary and tertiary care, this situation will change, continues Oleg Kalashnikov. Only in such circumstances when the investor knows that his investment will pay off, we can talk about the prerequisites for a significant breakthrough in medical industry of Ukraine and in particular in cardiac surgery.

Public or private hospital?

It is noteworthy that cardiac surgery in state institutions, such operations cost the patient approximately the same cost.

The conference was attended by Maria Derevianko patient, which the clinic Dobrobut did minimally invasive surgery. I live in Western Ukraine, and initially of course, I telephoned the public hospitals of major cities (in particular in Kyiv), where I could help. However, nowhere because government agencies did not name the amount I will need to pay. Said only that the amount is negotiable. As I understand it, in public clinics just to visually evaluate the patient, then decide what amount to request. When I called welfare, then I have no problems called all the amounts I should expect. And for the money, but made great the surgery, I received wonderful service. It is very nice when you leave the room and medical staff with a smile is interested in your health. It is very nice, but in public institutions at such an attitude should not count.
