Pregnant women were allowed to take medication of hypertension

Cure hypertension secure at an early stage of pregnancy, as the study showed. It is important, given that the number of expectant mothers with high blood pressure is growing.

Many women, waiting for the child, refuse to take medications for hypertension, even if you are suffering from dangerously high blood pressure. They believe that taking these drugs is a threat to their health and well-being of the unborn child. Previous studies have linked the use of medications category beta-blockers, designed to reduce pressure with birth defects, including heart defects, cleft lip and cleft palate. Scientists explained this by the fact that these drugs can penetrate the placenta.

However, American researchers from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard school of public health found that the average risk of developmental disorders in children born to women taking prescription drugs for hypertension is 0,007%. The experts remind that the number of mothers with heart disease is constantly increasing. If a woman with hypertension not taking necessary medications, it is not only dangerous to her health, but also poses a threat to the welfare of the child. In some cases, the refusal to take medication against hypertension during pregnancy can cause miscarriage.

Their findings are made on the basis of study of case histories of 18 000 women from the 5 Nordic countries, as well as records from the US healthcare system. All of these women suffered from hypertension, some meds, and some were refused because of concerns over health. Observations have shown that the average risk of any complications when taking these drugs is minimal, and therefore to abandon tablets in any case impossible. (READ MORE)
