The best defence vessels and the heart

A group of scientists from the Institute of theoretical and experimental Biophysics of RAS and Institute of cell Biophysics has found that some plant flavonoids can effectively protect against cardiovascular diseases. The main sources of flavonoids is plant foods: fruits, vegetables, root crops.

In particular, the researchers were able to determine the flavonoids have the property to block the activity of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), which plays a very important role in the regulation of blood pressure. When it is activated in the body, there is a side effect, which is reflected in the fact that the vascular tissue subjected to oxidative stress, creating a premise for the development of cardiovascular pathologies.

Flavonoids as were able to see specialists, mitigate oxidative stress, helping blood vessels to maintain integrity. During the experiments seven six flavonoids were able to completely prevent the activation of ACE in the aorta, being used in different concentrations. As the most active defender of the vessels in these tests showed Taxifolin (dihydroquercetin) is a substance, which is a lot of Siberian larch, Chinese yew, the Himalayan cedar.

According to scientists, the study of the properties of flavonoids allows to evaluate their possible use as promising industry of therapy of cardiovascular diseases. Flavonoids are not toxic to the human body, and at least for some patients may be more preferred than medications.
