In the Kuban region conducted a unique operation for lengthening hands – Krasnodar trauma patient was a young Russian woman, who due to a birth defect one arm was significantly shorter than the other.
Operation for lengthening the arms were made by the specialists in the trauma Department of the Regional hospital № 4. The 23-year-old patient who came to him from another region, the right hand was significantly behind on its length from the left. Krasnodar physicians have figured out how to help a young woman: they decided to lengthen her right shoulder.
Minister of healthcare of Krasnodar Krai Yevgeny Filippov reported that the first to “put the Ilizarov frame, which was supposed to extend the arm and raise the bone”. The so-called regenerate bone was grown using the apparatus within three months. After that, the surgeons removed the device and installed in the shoulder of the patient the internal fixator of bone – blocked nail.
Set a nail in contrast to exterior design that does not require regular dressings, does not interfere in everyday life. According to experts,to strengthen the bones need to withstand for some time. As noted by Yevgeny Filippov, “the restructuring of the regenerate in normal bone will occur during the next year, without causing the patient discomfort.”
The Ilizarov method was developed 65 years ago, it is based on a General biological property of tissues to respond to stretching dosed growth and regeneration. To this day it has not lost its relevance and popularity in the modern version of the device Ilizarova used in more than 60 countries around the world. According to scientists, the potential of this method is not fully disclosed.
