The results of this work published in The Independent. They indicate that in the treatment of depression is extremely important to practice “diet counseling” patients, as certain foods provide anti-inflammatory effect on the nervous system and thereby protect against the development of mental disorders. Scientists found that people eating according to the principles of the Mediterranean diet, 33% less prone to depression.

Scientists believe that depression in humans develops as a consequence of systemic inflammation throughout the body. Inflammation, in turn, is triggered by food, whose components activate the movement of inflammatory conglomerates in the circulatory system. Such food, according to them, are alcohol, harmful saturated fats and sugar products.

The researchers said that “the relationship between the gut and the brain plays a key role in mental health, and it is modulated by gastrointestinal bacteria”. Healthy intestinal flora products and healthier mental state, experts say.
