Experts at Copenhagen University carried out an experiment involving 60 healthy person subjects, and it showed that a gluten-free diet can actually help weight loss and some improvements in health. Under the test for 8 weeks, the volunteers adhered to the first diet with a high content of gluten, up to 18 grams a day. This was followed by a break of two months. After a pause, the volunteers switched to a gluten-free diet, eating no more than 2 grams of gluten per day. The number of calories and nutrients two diets did not differ.

In the end, gluten-free diet has confirmed its usefulness for weight loss and health improvement.

“As a result of compliance with a gluten-free diet, people have improved the condition of the intestinal microbiota and, consequently, overall health. They also have a slightly decreased weight, which can also be attributed to the normalization of the intestinal microflora”, – said the author of the experiment.
At the same time, researchers believe that improvement in the condition of the body on a diet is not so much related to a decrease in the consumption of gluten, but the specific composition of dietary fiber in the diet. People who adhered to a gluten-free diet in the experiment, consuming such fibers, vegetables, brown rice, corn, oats. If gluten-free products are devoid of fiber and dietary fiber, they are unlikely to be useful, experts stress.
