Millions of people commit suicide because of chronic pain

Chronic pain is pushing millions of people to suicide. An increasing number of victims of cancer, arthritis and even back pain leaving life voluntarily.

A new report by the Center for control and prevention of diseases of the USA says that millions of Americans thinking about suicide every year due to chronic painassociated with cancer, arthritis and other conditions. Tens of thousands of people decide to suicide. This happens against the background of severe opioid epidemic in the country, which also kills tens of thousands of people. Now the report showed that among these people there are those who voluntarily settles scores with life from-for chronic pain.

The researchers found that today, 25 million Americans suffer from pain, of which 10.5 million suffer daily from severe chronic pain. Evaluating data for 18 States, collected from 2003 to 2014, the researchers found that over this period, there were 123 181 suicide – and this figure does not even cover half of the country! 9% of them or 10 of 789 the man took his own life due to chronic pain associated with arthritis, cancer and bad backs. The link between pain and suicide becomes increasingly strong. In 2003, 7.4% of suicides were associated with chronic pain, and in 2014 the figure increased to 10.2%.

Because the United States allowed the free sale of weapons, most of the suicides carried out with guns. But even here victims of chronic pain exceeds the number of people who shoot for other reasons – 53,6% versus 51%. 16.2% of patients with chronic pain commit suicide with an overdose of drugs.
