Few would argue that French fries are healthy food. However, the statement of the American professors about the dangers of this dish sparked a storm among fans of this dish.
In an article published in theNew York Times last week, Eric RIMM (Rimm Eric), Professor, Harvard School of public health T. H. Chan (Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health) said that Americans need to reduce consumption of French fries.
RIMM also says that people are often themselves difficult to control the volume of portions, they often eat more than necessary. He offered his solution to the problem:
I think it would be nice if the meal consisted of small portions of salad and six sticks of fries.
Lovers of French fries immediately ganged up on Rima on social networks, demanding an explanation from him. Many users are outraged by the proposal to confine the six sticks of fried potato. Some demanded to stop destroying their life, and someone demanded to take away from Rima a degree.
No one in the history of mankind did not stop at six sticks of fries, writes one user on Twitter.
The employee of one of the restaurants expressed concern that visitors may resort to violence if they are limited to six sticks fries.
In response to the RIMM was forced to make excuses and go napopyatnuyu. My suggestion was that maybe restaurants should offer smaller portions to satisfy those who love the taste of fries, but don’t want to eat a starch bomb, he said his proposal in Twitter.
Potatoes, especially fried in oil, is associated with obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. A study published last year in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, showed that those who eat French fries two or three times a week, there was an increased risk of mortality, compared with those who ate potatoes cooked in other ways.
It is no secret that Americans love processed potato products. According to the Ministry of agriculture of the USA, one American consumes about 53 pounds of white potatoes, two-thirds roasted, frozen or processed in various ways.
In the article the New York Times also stated that the Department of agriculture recommends that you eat no more than 85 grams of French fries per day. In the same article, American nutritionist Lindsay Moyer (Moyer Lindsay) also urged people to eat as a smaller portion of French fries or even to order something else, and not to dip French fries in ketchup or mayonnaise.
