This is why a nutritional imbalance will often first show up in the form of hair loss. Considered a “must-do” by Philip Kingsley when it comes to maximising your hair potential is to eat breakfast. “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for your body – and your hair,” the hair expert stated.
“Energy to form hair cells is lowest first thing in the morning (or whenever you wake up!).
“Eat a balanced and nutritious breakfast of proteins and complex carbohydrates to give your hair a nutritional boost.”
One great addition to any breakfast plate is eggs, which are a great source of biotin, added Medical News Today.
Biotin is a mineral that may help boost hair growth, as thinning locks have been linked to a deficiency in this mineral.
Other signs of a biotin deficiency include rashes, skin infections, and brittle nails.
Eggs also contain L-lysine – an amino acid – that is present in the hair’s root.
“It is responsible for the shape and volume of the hair,” said Medical News Today.
A deficiency in L-lysine can cause hair loss, the health site confirmed, while an adequate supply of the amnio acid can promote regular hair growth.
Whether you have scrambled, fried, or poached eggs, they’re also a good source of vitamin D.
Some research suggests that vitamin D may also help improve hair growth.
When it comes to having a midday snack, Philip Kingsley is a fan of something filling.
“The energy to form hair cells drops four hours after you eat a meal,” the hair expert pointed out.
“To sustain energy levels to your follicles, snack between meals on a complex carbohydrate.”
One example of a complex carbohydrate is nuts, but one in particular could be the most beneficial when it comes to hair growth.
“Brazil nuts are an excellent source of selenium, a mineral that may help boost hair growth,” said Medical News Today.
Researchers from West Pomeranian University of Technology, Poland, noted that selenium is mandatory in hair creation.
There is an upper recommended limit of selenium consumption, however, as too much can cause feelings of nausea.
It’s helpful not to eat more than 400mcg of selenium, which is equivalent to four Brazil nuts daily.
When it comes to dinner, do incorporate protein into your meal, as this is what hair is primarily made of.
“Including adequate amounts in your diet is vital to hair growth,” added Philip Kingsley, such as oily fish.
