Participants were divided into two groups. One of them, the people took capsules with sweeteners – Sucralose and acesulfam. The quantity of sweeteners used by volunteers on a daily basis, was equivalent to four banks of diet drink a day.

When testing was completed, researchers found that diet drinks with sweeteners impair the body’s control of blood sugar, thereby increasing the likelihood of diabetes. It turned out that the volunteers who consumed these sweeteners in the composition of the intestinal microbiome have been adverse, changed, and dropped production of the hormone GLP-1, important for the regulation of the concentration of glucose in the blood.
