PARIS — Swiss inspection company SGS has acquired Thomas J. Stephens & Associates Inc., a clinical research organization for the cosmetics and personal-care industry.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“This acquisition expands SGS’s consumer and retail services portfolio in the clinical testing sector for cosmetic and personal-care products in the USA,” said Frankie Ng, chief executive officer of SGS, in a statement. “The leading combination of Stephens and SGS Harrison Research Laboratories in New Jersey gives SGS a leading position in this field in the U.S.A.”
Thomas J. Stephens, based in Richardson, Tex., was founded in 1989 and is privately owned. The company, which has a facility in Phoenix, registered sales of approximately $15 million last year and counts about 100 employees.
SGS, of Geneva, has as its core services inspection, testing, certification and verification. The company operates more than 2,600 offices and laboratories globally.
