More than 80% of people with cancer genes, don’t even know it. This is the conclusion reached by researchers.
Eight out of every 10 people who have genesthat drastically increase the risk of developing tumors of the breast, pancreas, ovarian and prostate do not even know it. To such sad conclusion reached by scientists from Yale University. We are talking about mutations of two genes BRCA1 and BRCA2, which, for example, the probability of women to encounter a tumor of the breast before reaching 80 years old, grows up, respectively, 72% and 69%. Mutations of these genes increase the risk of pancreatic tumors in people of all ages, as well as the likelihood of malignant ovarian neoplasms in women and prostate in men.
Despite the fact that genetic tests with a high degree of probability predict associated with BRCA1 and BRCA2 tumors, the majority of people still look to their relatives, to determine the risk of hereditary cancer. However, the authors of a new study urge people to test themselves for various genetic variations. It turned out that only 18% of people they tested, knew about the existence of a dangerous DNA. The other 82% did not know about it. In 1990-e years it has been proved that mutations of the genes BRCA1 and BRCA2, increase cancer of the breast tumors among women.
In the subsequent period, numerous studies have studied the effects of those mutations on risk of other malignancies, as has been proved. In the U.S. one in eight women at some time in their life will face breast cancer. Approximately 460 000 people in the country learn about tumors of the pancreas, prostate or ovaries every year.
