Grandchild No. 4! Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla are ecstatic over Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s royal baby.
“We couldn’t be more delighted at the news, and we’re looking forward to meeting the baby when we return,” the Duke of Cornwall, 70, told press on Tuesday, May 7, after he and his wife, 71, arrived in Berlin for a three-day tour.
Charles’ son, 34, and his wife, 37, welcomed their baby boy on Monday, May 6. Meghan and Harry announced the little one’s arrival with an Instagram post.
“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019,” their social media statement read. “Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.”
Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, who are already grandparents to Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 12 months, aren’t the only royal family members to congratulate the new parents.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news,” Buckingham Palace wrote on Monday.
Prince William and Duchess Kate released a statement of their own before speaking out about their new nephew to press in London the next day.
“[We’re] absolutely thrilled and looking forward to seeing them in the next few days as things quiet down,” the Duke of Cambridge, 36, said on Tuesday. “I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep deprivation society that is parenting.”
His wife, 37, added: “We look forward to meeting him and what his name’s going to be. It’s really exciting for both of them.”
