Don't Sweat V-Day: Here Are Gift Ideas for Kids of All Ages

To be honest, we at SheKnows are a divided staff when it comes to giving Valentine’s Day gifts to our kids. To some, this tradition is a given. Others think that so soon on the heels of the winter holidays’ excess, a gift isn’t necessary. But after much contemplation, even those of us overwhelmed by gift-giving demands in general agree that there is something very sweet about acknowledging these very special loves of our lives on V-Day.

In that spirit, we’ve gathered some gifts of varying price points, for kids of all ages, to let you choose where you fall in this Valentine’s Day spectrum. The generous gifters among you can go all out, while the rest of us might be newly inspired to wrap up some heart-shaped treats, a book, or an art kit. There are even options for parents of older kids who shy away from all demonstrations of affection and may not be the biggest fans of Valentine’s Day. In fact, those might be the ones who need symbolic gestures from us most of all.

Our mission at SheKnows is to empower and inspire women, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

‘Colors of Love,’ by Tina Gallo

This beautiful board book reminds us all that love looks like so much more than pink and purple hearts.

Posh Peanuts Queen of Hearts Pajamas

Give your little one sweet dreams in these PJs made from bamboo viscose.

Put Me in the Story: ‘Let’s Color Together’

Add your child’s name and your own (or, you know, “Mom”) to this personalized coloring book, which has side-by-side pages that allow both of you to fill in the scenes at the same time.

Craft-tastic Make and Give Heart Bowls

We love the idea of giving kids a gift that they then give to their friends — in this case, they’re little bowls they can paint before decoupaging a note inside.

DIY Slime Kit

It’s February, and those of us in the north are facing many more weekends indoors with our children. Pick up this slime kit and get everyone involved for hours of icky, goopy, creation.

Tattly Goofy Doodles Temporary Tattoo Set

Cut out all the mushy stuff and sit down for a family tattoo session. Who’s got dibs on the farting gorilla?

Baked by Melissa Love & Cupcakes

Your whole family can enjoy this pack of 25 cupcakes, and absolutely no one can complain about hating Valentine’s Day.

‘Baking Class,’ bu Deanna F. Cook

Then again, you may never again have to buy cupcakes if you’ve got a budding baker on your hands. This might be a gift for you too!

WWF Adopt a Koala Kit

We’re still reeling from photos of koalas escaping the wildfires in Australia, so this gift donation to the World Wildlife Fund means something extra. Plus, the $55 and $100 versions come with a very cute stuffy.

Watercolor Set

Valentine’s Day is when so many of us try to express our love for others. With this gift, encourage your kid to express themselves only for sheer pleasure of it — seriously, they don’t even need to show their work to anyone.

My Tagalongs Teddy Bear Fur Mini Backpack

This is for the tween or teen who has declared they’re too old for teddy bears — but for whom you really miss buying teddy bears.

Fujifilm Instax Mini 9

Not only is this little instant camera a Valentine’s-appropriate rose color, but it’s also a way to encourage creative kids to share spontaneous photo gifts with their friends.

Taco Socks

You already feed those teenagers who think about nothing but food. Make sure they think of you too (even while they’re stuffing their faces).

Apple Gift Card

If your kids are glued to their phones anyway, you might as well show them you know what they really care about.

Giant Hershey’s Kiss

There’s absolutely no shame in giving chocolate on Valentine’s Day. Some might even like this better than anything else you could buy them.
