Experts, Roskoshestvo checked the potatoes on the Russian market for 181 terms of quality and safety. As noted in the message of the organization, experts identified a potato affected with various diseases, and also contain cadmium.
In particular, among the potatoes, purchased at markets and in online stores, Pakistani products experts Roskoshestvo found traces of fertilizers – chlorpropham (growth regulator) and thiametoxam (preparation for pest control). According to the researchers, the traces of thiamethoxam in Pakistani carticel – a sign that the manufacturer exceeded a dose of the chemical during processing of potatoes.
At the same time, none of the potatoes were not contaminated by pesticides.
Roskoshestvo checked the potatoes and nitrates that may be present in tubers. The amount of these substances should not exceed levels of more than 250 milligrams per kilogram. The Minister noted that “in most of the investigated potato specialists Roskoshestvo did not find an excess of nitrates”. The exception to this list is made up of early potatoes from Egypt, bought in the store network, as well as domestic potatoes, which were purchased on the market – they are nitrates present.
“Nitrates are concentrated in the peel, before cooking it you need to scrape. If before cooking the already peeled potatoes for half an hour to leave the water, but twice to change it, for the amount of nitrate and starch in it will decrease,” – said experts.
In Pakistani and Russian early potatoes when the scan detects exceeded the dose of cadmium, most likely, the potatoes grew in ecologically unfavorable.
“One-time use of such potatoes will not harm the health, but if you eat it every day, the consequences will be disastrous, as cadmium is the most carcinogenic element that can accumulate in the body,” – said the Director of the research Department of Roskoshestvo Liudmila Vikulova.
Also, the potatoes (almost all of the tubers), the examiners found diseases such as common scab and silver, late blight, Rhizoctonia, Phoma, wet and dry rot. The experts noted that for human health, these diseases are not dangerous, but was advised not to buy potatoes with defects, such as brown-black patina, tight spots under the skin is irregularly shaped and more.
