GoodRx Saves Emily $3,600 a Year on Seizure Medications for Her St. Bernard, Buddy

Guys, @GoodRx is saving me $300 a MONTH on Buddy’s seizure medication. Seriously so thankful!

Emily, who we reached out to on Twitter, is a pediatric nurse in Omaha, Nebraska. The staff at her clinic often recommends GoodRx to patients who have trouble affording medications for their children. She says, “We get the most calls from parents asking about prices for antibiotics and ADHD medications. We tell them to download the GoodRx app on their phones to look for lower prices.”

Though GoodRx comes up all the time at work, Emily has never had to use it for herself or her own family. That is, until her 15-month-old St. Bernard, Buddy, got sick.

Emily and her husband adopted Buddy about six months ago, and Buddy was living large with his new family (which includes a doggy sibling named Lilly) when he suddenly started experiencing seizures last November. His seizures got progressively worse, and after having four in the span of a month, Emily decided to take him to the vet.

The vet put him on Keppra XR right away to help with the seizures. The medication was going to cost $370 for a month’s supply, but Emily checked GoodRx and found a coupon that would bring it down to $68. As Emily’s original tweet says, that’s $300 in savings with GoodRx.

Emily tells us that Buddy’s lab results came back normal, so they haven’t been able to figure out a cause of the seizures or come up with a diagnosis yet. But he’s been seizure-free since starting the Keppra XR, so it’s likely he’ll be taking it for the rest of his life…which means that GoodRx will be helping Emily and her family save a whopping $3,600 a year!

Now that things are back to normal, Buddy can continue going on walks, swimming, and playing tug-of-war with his family. Emily says she’s relieved, adding: “He is a big cuddler and loves everyone he meets!”
