Keeping up the surge of color that energized last season’s shows, the New York runways saw makeup artists evolving the trend with a focus on primary colors. In both sheer and opaque versions that ranged from eyeliner to full eye makeup, makeup artists at Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Chromat, Anna Sui, Ulla Johnson and Savage x Fenty used pigments of blue, yellow and red to create bold looks. Ranging from the fantastical at Anna Sui, where Pat McGrath created a gradient yellow to pink look, to the more subtle at Ulla Johnson, where Romy Soleimani gave models a thin red eyeliner, makeup artists showed the versatility of the colorful eye.
“It’s fun to have more than one look because you can give each woman a slightly different look on the storytelling,” said Fatima Thomas, who created three looks for Chromat. “It shows there are different ways to take an idea and wrap it around different colors.”
