The staff of Cardiff University (UK) found: aspirin improves survival in cancer patients. The results of their research published by MedicalXpress.
“Aspirin can be of benefit in the treatment of certain types of cancer,” – said the scientists.
In favor of their conclusion indicated by the results of the analysis of data on 120 thousands of patients in Oncology, with cancer of the bowel, breast and prostate. Of these patients took low dose aspirin.
About the usefulness of aspirin scientists expressed different opinions. Skeptical of the experts pointed to its ability to provoke internal bleeding. But the authors of the new study calculated that only a few took aspirin patients experienced a side effect in the form of bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract. The number of such cases in cancer patients does not exceed the number of cases of hemorrhage in the stomach in the control group not taking the medicine (in this group there were 400 thousand people).
Experts say that supports the benefits of aspirin in cancer treatment data were obtained during observational studies and is insufficient for confident statements about the existence of a causal relationship. However, as noted by the researchers, “aspirin is very effective as a pain reliever and preventive agent, which can be used for the treatment of malignant tumors”.
