Scientists have developed the first of its kind device, capable of restoring damaged nerves. And before they dissolve inside the body.
The researchers were able to create a tiny device that can restore the nerves and then safely dissolve in the body. This is one of the first practical samples of so-called “bio electronic” medicine. Regarding this technology is a lot of controversy, it serves to actively apply for the health promotion through mobile applications, portable gadgets and even tablets that are after ingestion to monitor different body functions. And now researchers from Northwestern University have come up with electronic devices from materials that are able to dissolve inside our body.
To date, they have successfully used the first device for treatment of damaged nerves in rats, but in the future these devices will replace the traditional pacemaker. Mankind actively uses electronics to treat a variety of illnesses and injuries, but we almost always necessary to implant them surgically, and any failure or end-of-life batteries patients again forced to go under the scalpel. Many materials are safe for use inside the body, but they are changed and broken down just as it happens with our fabrics.
Fundamentally new in its concept, the instrument can completely change the situation. We are talking about wireless devices in the form of discs the size of a tiny coin, which stimulate peripheral nerves due to the weak electric discharges. The most valuable thing in them is the Biodegradability. This means that when the nerves are cured, the body fluids will decompose naturally and will bring all of these devices just as they do with food. (READ MORE)
