A number of food flavorings recognized carcinogens and banned

Some artificial flavors, widely used in the food industry, was banned in the USA – the decision to ban took control behind quality of foodstuff and medicines(FDA). These additives are suspected ability to induce cancer.

In the black list includes the following flavours: benzophenone, ethylacrylate, eugeniotroisi live, peaceably polygon, styrene and pyridine. Manufacturers are required to remove these additives from their products. Proponents of the ban point out that studies show a connection between food additives and cancer in animals.

According to the Council on the protection of the natural resources all of the above components in so many foods – ice cream and bakery products, beer, chewing gum. To accurately assess the volume of use of these additives is not possible, because manufacturers are not required to disclose this information, and on food labels, they are designated without a specific definition, just as “artificial flavors”.

Now American manufacturers have 24 months to remove or replace the flavors in foods in other less dangerous components.

In Russia, many of these additives are not used or are used in extremely small quantities. In particular, to obtain peppermint smell applies pyridine, to produce a citrus smell – benzofuran.
