It appears Ilana Glazer is approaching her pregnancy with the same on-her-own-terms attitude we’ve loved since she and Abbi Jacobson blew into our lives like a breath of fresh air on Broad City. On Wednesday, the writer-actress announced she and husband David Rooklin are expecting their first child and told Entertainment Weekly that she is “specifically seeking out the most spiritually healthy and welcoming experience.”

In an Instagram post, Glazer is seen pulling up her plaid top to reveal little baby bump with the caption “hi ✡️👶🏻✡️,” Her former HBO partner in crime Jacobson commented “Lil babe ❤️,” while her Rough Night co-star Jillian Bell added, “Ahhhhhh!!! The cutest little bump! ❤️❤️❤️❤️.” (Glazer is just one of many celebrity pregnancies of 2021.)

In an interview with EW, more evidence of her growing belly is on display in a series of gorgeous photos by Djeneba Aduayom. “This was not supposed to happen this way, but it’s just so eerie and cosmically funny that it has,” Glazer said about being pregnant for the June 25 release of her new Hulu movie False Positive, a horror flick in which she plays a woman who undergoes nightmarish IVF treatments with a fertility specialist. “I’m lucky; I’m in control, unlike our protagonist. I don’t feel like I’m having the rug pulled out from under me in any way.”
To get ready for motherhood, Glazer is seeking advice from friends and family who are already parents. “I’m not afraid to ask a billion questions,” she told EW. “There are certain trends in society of how pregnancy should look — the ‘shoulda coulda wouldas’ that are put on women all the time but are so amplified in pregnancy. I’m specifically seeking out the most spiritually healthy and welcoming experience.”
Known for addressing political and cultural issues in her work, Glazer notes how she is fascinated by the complicated layers involved with pregnancy, birth, fertility medicine, and women’s issues.
“I think about women in America, supposedly the wealthiest nation in the world, and yet our maternal death rate is growing,” she said. “The process of birth is so traumatic and painful, and yet it’s the most miraculous, surreal, real thing. It’s like this perfect canvas for the paradox that is our country.”
