Scientists from the University of Georgia discovered the benefits of a diet high in fat, enriched with cottonseed oil, as reported by Medical Xpress. The researchers found that while adherence to diet, which includes dishes with cotton oil, markedly lowers the level of cholesterol.
According to scientists, the fatty acid found in cottonseed oil, has a beneficial effect on the lipid profile, improving the level of cholesterol in young men. This conclusion was made by scientists after a five-day outpatient study involving 15 healthy men 18 to 45 years without obesity.
Experts have tested the effect on the body of volunteers of diets with a high content of cotton and olive oils. As a result, men who consumed cottonseed oil, significantly decreased the level of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Total cholesterol the participants in the experiment decreased by 8 percent, the level of low density lipoproteins by 15%, triglycerides by 30 percent.
In a press release, the scientists said he was impressed by such a significant influence cottonseed oil at reducing “bad” cholesterol in the body. Also, according to them, cotton oil contributed to the increase of 8 percent the level of “good” cholesterol or high density lipoproteins, which provides processing and removing fat from the body.
Cottonseed oil has a high content of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Scientists believe that with this component, cottonseed oil has a positive effect on the profiles of lipids and cholesterol. They intend to check how the oil can affect the body in older people with high cholesterol.
