People have been left “grossed out” after dermatologists shared how often you should shower, sparking a lively debate on television. The revelation on US talk show Today came as a surprise to many.
While some people may think it is best to shower once or twice a day, others believed only once a day was the correct amount. Dermatologists however reckon we should only be showering two or three times a week, reports WalesOnline.
Hosts of the show, Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, and Dylan Dreyer went into depth about the topic, along with Adrianna Barrionuevo Brach, the editorial director of Shop Today. During the discussion, called ‘How often should you?’, Brach asked the others: “How often do you think you should shower per week, according to dermatologists?”
They had the choice of four answers. These included “Every day, two to three times a week, five times a week, or once a week.”

Roker even exclaimed: “I don’t care what they say.” Brach went on to unveil what dermatologists would answer – with that being two or three times per week.
Adding: “The consensus is two to three times per week, but it does depend on the person. I’m looking at Al’s face like, ‘What is this?’ It depends on the person, your lifestyle, your skin time, your age, your activity level, as well.”
Rocker and Jones however both disagreed on the matter. Brach added that the dermatologists suggested that too much showering could lead to skin problems like dry skin and eczema.
Many people tuning into the show headed online to share their thoughts on the matter. On Instagram, Jojorob812 replied: “That’s why so many people stink.”

According to Harvard Health Publishing, overcleaning your body could be making your skin drier than it would be with less frequent showering. It adds: “This is not a public health menace.
“However, daily showers do not improve your health, could cause skin problems or other health issues — and, importantly, they waste a lot of water. Also, the oils, perfumes, and other additives in shampoos, conditioners, and soaps may cause problems of their own, such as allergic reactions (not to mention their cost).”
