A ten-year-old Boy in the United States fell face first onto a barbecue skewer and has survived as by a miracle, without dire consequences. The little Xavier Cunningham from the state of Missouri played with friends in a tree house when he was attacked by wasps.
To escape the insects, he fell from the tree house and landed face first on a BBQ skewer, the children had previously vertically into the ground, as US media reported.
The skewer penetrated below the eye by Xavier’s left cheek and the skull. The child picked himself up and ran home. I heard him screaming, said Xavier’s mother, Gabrielle Miller, the newspaper Kansas City Star. He came in and had this thing in the face.
Penetrated 15 centimeters into the skull
Xavier immediately came to the hospital, and was twice moved before a qualified surgeon was found team. On Sunday he was operated on successfully, around 100 Doctors and staff.
Something he had never seen, said neurosurgeon Koji Ebersole, the Kanas City Star: This thing is almost gone in his eye, his brain and his spinal cord over, he said, on the grill spit. It is incredible that the skewer had penetrated 15 centimeters deep in the skull, without hitting these areas. Larger blood vessels were fortunately not been damaged.
The Doctors assume that Xavier will retain no more serious damage.
