Nick Jonas health: ‘I lost so much weight’ Singer’s lifelong condition – the symptoms

Nick Jonas, 26, opened up about his health condition on social media in November 2018. He revealed he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a teenager – a severe form of it – and that it caused him to lose an excessive amount of weight. The star was 13 when he found out he had the condition, and since then has had to learn how to maintain a healthy life while monitoring his blood sugar levels.

He wrote on Instagram: “13 years ago today I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

“The picture on the left is me a few weeks after my diagnosis. Barely 100 pounds after having lost so much weight from my blood sugar being so high before going to the doctor where I would find out I was diabetic.

“On the right is me now. Happy and healthy. Prioritising my physical health, working out and eating healthy and keeping my blood sugar in check.”

Type 1 diabetes is a condition that causes a person’s blood sugar (glucose) level to become too high.

This happens when the body can’t produce enough of a hormone called insulin, which is responsible for controlling blood sugar.

Type 1 diabetics require daily injections of insulin to keep blood sugar levels under control.

Nick realised something wasn’t quite right while on tour with his brother’s Joe and Kevin, who make up the rest of the Jonas Brothers.

He outlined he noticed a change in temperament, speaking with On Track Diabetes, and noted how he felt thirsty all the time and needed to use the bathroom far more frequently than usual.

After having his blood sugar levels tested by a doctor, Nick was immediately rushed to hospital.

But today, the singer has learnt to manage his condition by following a healthy and active lifestyle.

Continuing writing in the post, he said: “I have full control of my day to day life with this disease, and I’m so grateful to my family and loved ones who have helped me every step of the way.

“Never let anything hold you back from living your best life.”
