A man who cheated on his wife with their bridesmaid, then had a long affair with another woman, has revealed his reasons for cheating in an anonymous tell-all interview.
The man, going by the name Jeremy, spoke to Fatherly about sleeping with his wife’s close friend a year after their wedding.
He opened up about his wife’s lack of libido due to her depression and anxiety and blamed this lack of sex at home for his eyes wandering.
"Sex became basically a once a month dutiful obligation. No foreplay, no real intimacy, just get it over with quick,” he said.
“It’s hard to explain just how crushing it is to be rejected by your wife over and over. You lose your confidence, your self-worth, you feel unloved.”
So one night a year after their dry spell began, when his wife was out of town, their ‘close female friend’ stayed over at their house. She had been a bridesmaid for them and the couple had also been in her wedding.
He says they "commiserated" about their unhappy marriages over a bottle of whiskey and ended up sleeping together.
"Jeremy" confessed he had liked this woman for a long time, knowing her before he met his wife, but they had never been single simultaneously.
They agreed not to tell their spouses and haven’t slept together since – but that wasn’t the end of his cheating.
Two years later he started attending community theatre and met a woman in the middle of a divorce.

Alone with her at a party his wife didn’t want to go to, he ended up sleeping with her too.
And late rehearsals for their show became a perfect cover to continue their affair.
His justification for doing so? "Every time I felt guilty, I’d suggest to my wife that we have sex, and her saying no only justified what I was doing," he confessed.
He also revealed the reason he’s cheating is the lack of sex at home, saying: "And that’s entirely because of [my wife’s] mental health problems."

Even though his wife is going through treatment and taking drugs for her illness, he is still frustrated by lack of bedroom action.
"Jeremy" eventually ended the affair with the theatre friend and has suggested counselling with his wife to get them back on track.
But he’s still not going to be honest with her about his infidelity.
