Coconut oil is reportedly one of the healthiest foods you can find, and has been named a so-called ‘superfood’. Regularly adding coconut oil to your diet could have a number of positive impacts on your health.
Coconut oil is made by pressing dried or fresh coconut meat – the white fleshy part of the coconut.
There are several different types of product available, but the most important two are virgin coconut oil, and refined coconut oil.
At room temperature, your coconut oil will feel relatively firm and waxy.
But after it’s warmed up, it’ll transform into the type of oil we’re all familiar with.
“Coconut oil is incredibly popular — and for good reason,” said nutritionist Franziska Spritzler.
She wrote for medical website Healthline: “It offers many health benefits, has a delicate taste, and is widely available.
“It’s also an extremely versatile oil with a number of uses you may not be aware of.”

Visceral fat tends to encompass your major organs, and could increase of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
Joint pain
Some arthritis patients may benefit from eating coconut oil, due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Inflammation is one of the key symptoms of arthritis, and may contribute to joint pain.
Dry lips
Coconut oil works as a natural lip balm, according to the nutritionist.
It leaves your lips feeling moist for hours on end, while also protecting from sun damage.
Nail cuticles
Hangnails are an unwanted addition to your skincare routine, and they can be surprisingly painful.
But applying coconut oil to the jagged cuticle has been claimed to help heal them.
Deodorant
“While sweat itself has no smell, the bacteria living on your skin can produce undesirable odours,” said Spritzler.
“Coconut oil’s strong antibacterial properties make it a great natural deodorant that contains no chemicals.”
Weight loss
Regularly adding coconut oil to your diet could help you to lose weight, scientists have revealed.
It works by increasing your satiety – the sensation of feeling full – after a big meal.
That means you’re less likely to start snacking later on in the day.
Hair damage
Coconut oil helps your hair to maintain its protein, which is key to keeping it nice and healthy.
Simply apply the oil directly to your hair to create a hair mask.
