If you picked a few pumpkins at the local market to use as decoration on Halloween, in the process of preparing for the holiday you probably will be elbow-deep in pumpkin pulp. But do not rush to send it in the trash, we’ll show you how to use it.
Vegetable broth
Just like onion skins and carrot tops, the insides of the pumpkin that you would normally throw away, is a great ingredient for homemade vegetable broth. Keep the pulp together with the seeds in an airtight container or bag in the freezer, along with other remnants of vegetables that, if necessary, to make a fragrant broth. Just throw everything into a large pot with water, bring to the boil, a little boil, then strain and use the broth as base for soups, stews and other dishes.
Pumpkin bread with cheese stuffing
Use pumpkin flesh for making mashed potatoes in recipes.
Ingredients
For pumpkin bread:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 large egg
- 1 Cup sugar
- 1/2 Cup canola oil
- 1 Cup pumpkin puree
- 2 tablespoons sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
For the filling:
- 120 g cream cheese, room temperature
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Method of preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 C. line a rimmed baking dish with parchment paper. Grease parchment paper with butter and sprinkle with flour.
- Whisk the flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon together in a medium or large bowl and set aside.
- With a mixer whisk the egg and sugar. Add the pumpkin, sour cream and vanilla, and stir to combine.
- Turn off the mixer. Add flour mixture and mix until smooth. Move the mixture back in the bowl used for the flour, and put it down.
- With a mixer beat the cream cheese, butter, vanilla, powdered sugar and 1/4 Cup liquid pumpkin dough.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish, evenly distributing it. Pour on top of cheese filling and spread with a spoon. On top pour the remaining dough. Bake pumpkin bread for 1 hour. Cool in the form for 30 minutes, then remove loaf to completely let it cool down.
- Pumpkin bread can be stored tightly wrapped in plastic wrap no longer than three days, or freeze and store up to 2 weeks.
Pumpkin juice
Place the pumpkin insides and seeds into a bowl, and then pour boiling water to soften the fibers. Use fork to mash the pulp and then strain the mixture. You should get a bright orange liquid, which can be added to smoothies, sauces, soups, or even use it instead of broth to cook risotto.
Pumpkin latte
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
- 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/3 to 1/2 Cup strong coffee
- 1/4 Cup pastry cream
Method of preparation
- Put pumpkin puree, spices and a pinch of black pepper in a small saucepan and cook for about 2 minutes on medium heat.
- Add the sugar and stir until until the mixture becomes like thick syrup.
- Add milk and vanilla, and gently stir often. Make sure that the mixture is not boiled.
- Thoroughly beat the mixture hand or regular blender until then, until it becomes frothy.
- Mix the drinks. Pour espresso and divide between two mugs. Add the mixture foamed milk and pumpkin. From top to decorate whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon or nutmeg.
Pumpkin bars
Ingredients
- 1/4 Cup brown sugar
- 1/2 Cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 450 g pumpkin puree
Method of preparation
- Preheat the oven to 220 C. In a small bowl, whisk saharso, spices and salt. In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs. Add the egg mixture to the sugar, then pumpkin puree and condensed milk. Mix until a homogeneous mass.
- Pour the filling into a silicone form and bake for 10 minutes. Lower the oven temperature to 180C and bake for approximately 25 minutes. Put the cake on a plate and let it cool. Garnish with whipped cream as desired.
Pumpkin face mask
The bright orange flesh of pumpkins are full of vitamins A and C, which are very useful for your skin. After remove the seeds, blend the pulp together with your favorite ingredients facial masks such as honey, yogurt or olive oil for cooking perfectly smooth mixture.
Pumpkin body scrub
In the same way as a face mask, a body scrub can be prepared by mixing the ingredients available in your kitchen, for example, pumpkin flesh, sugar, and coconut oil. A simple scrub of the three ingredients will make your skin soft and give it a cozy scent of autumn.
