The danger of cholesterol for health was a myth

The journal Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology published data obtained by an international group of scientists who studied data obtained by research on the nature of cholesterol in the last fifty years. As a result, scientists stated: there is no data showing the influence of cholesterol on cardiovascular disease.

“We found no evidence of a link between a high level or “bad” cholesterol and cardiovascular disease,” said the authors of the new work after they analyzed data on 1.3 million patients.
In a published review, researchers argue that widespread today, the idea of the danger of high cholesterol level in the blood to human health based on “misleading statistics, excluding failed tests and ignoring the many conflicting observations”. Does this mean that taking statins substantiated the necessity of these drugs to combat high cholesterol is, in essence, useless thing? Researchers believe: Yes.

Experts appeal to the analysis of data from 12 European countries in the period from 2000 to 2012. These calculations show that between taking statins and reduced mortality there is no connection. The effectiveness of statins in this time scientists put into question. According to their conclusion, these drugs have a “non-obvious benefits and serious side effects.”

The researchers shared they made the paradoxical discovery. In particular, they found that elderly people with high levels of “bad” cholesterol (LDL, low-density lipoproteins) tend to have much longer life expectancy. Another paradox is that healthy people with low “bad” cholesterol in the blood, as it turned out, prone to infectious diseases and cancer.
