Joe Wicks: The TV star is a health fanatic  

Can you run up the stairs?

I always try to take the stairs. Little things add up. My life is all about healthy eating and fitness and in an average week I do five 20-minute high intensity interval training workouts.

Ever dieted?

I don’t like the word diet and the whole concept of depriving yourself. You need a combination of fats, proteins and carbohydrates to fuel your body. What’s important to me is how I feel.

Any vices?

A gin and tonic. If I go for dinner, I like having a couple of cocktails, but I’ve never been a smoker. I might also have an occasional blow out with a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

Any family ailments?

My mum and dad had me in their 20s, so they’re still alive. My healthy outlook didn’t come from my parents though; quite the opposite. We didn’t eat great food growing up.

Worst illness/injury?

I got run over by somebody on a bike when I was six and broke my leg but I’ve been lucky since.

Get your five a day?

I don’t know if I do every day, but I’m getting better. I’ve started cooking more vegetarian food. I’m still a meat eater but don’t actually miss meat every time. My favourite veg are roasted cauliflower and broccoli — midget trees I call them — and I love berries.

Pop any pills?

None. I get all the nutrition I need from my food.

Had anything removed?

A couple of teeth as I was growing up. Ask me in ten years and I might have to have a metal knee or hip, but at the moment I’m still intact.

Ever have plastic surgery?

No. I just want to grow old naturally and look like a normal old man.

Cope well with pain?

Apart from watching Rosie give birth to our daughter Indie, I’ve not really been exposed to real pain myself.

Alternative remedies?

I had acupuncture for tired muscles after running a marathon once but it didn’t do anything for me.

Hangover cure?

Get up and do a bit of exercise, maybe go for a walk, get some fresh air. Hydrate and then put a healthy breakfast in you. Don’t go to the greasy spoon for a dirty old fry up.

What keeps you awake?

Nothing. You might assume it would be Indie, who’s now six months, but luckily for me she wakes once or twice for milk then sleeps through.

Like to live forever?

Not if everyone else is dying around me.
