Scientists learned the effects of starvation on longevity

Researchers from America found out that the increase in between meals improves immunity and has a positive effect on life expectancy. To such conclusions, contrary to popular belief, you should eat often, but small portions, the experts came after an experiment with mice 292.

Some rodents had access to food, the other consumed 30% fewer calories. Other animals were fed once a day, but consumed about the same amount of calories that rodents from the first group.

Dr. Rafael de Cabo from the National Institute on ageing in the US, commented on the results of the research, explaining that “extending the time of fasting led to improvement in the overall health and viability of male mice”.

– And this happened without any reduction in caloric content and regardless of the type of diet. Probably, fasting restored the important mechanisms that was not maintained during the continuous consumption of food, – said the researcher.

Scientists believe that the metabolism of mice similar to human, so the experts can be relevant for humans, reports RIA Novosti.
