Life in the city contributes to obesity

Scientists of the Institute for global health of Barcelona found a connection between living in cities and a penchant for obesity. That this is so, experts are convinced the results of the 10-year observations.

“Life in the city, as it turned out, actually promotes the formation of excess weight and obesity development”, – said the authors of the project.
According to their data, mainly provokes obesity in people living in Metropolitan areas, background noise. Among the leading noise stimuli included the sounds of an industrial nature, as well as transport, particularly associated with railway transport.

Scientists for ten years following indicators 1500 voluntary subjects. All changes in their status checked with the external factors. It turned out that each additional decibel of background noise leads to an increase risk of obesity in separately taken inhabitant of the metropolis.

According to experts, prevailing in the megacities noise contributes more actively to the production of the stress hormone cortisol in the response of the organism. Cortisol, which encourages fat storage, acts as a protective reserve.

This study is not the first in the study of noise, never fading in Metropolitan areas, and its impact on the human body. Scientists from the Karolinska University (Sweden) managed to find out that every extra 10 decibels of noise contribute to the increase of the waist size of a centimeter.
