Scientists from John Hopkins University in the USA concluded that a strong desire to sleep during the day with adequate duration of night sleep is a compelling reason to test for Alzheimer’s disease. Several thousand volunteers in this study were tested and a medical examination. After analyzing the data, scientists said that elderly people, who often felt the need for sleep in the daytime, the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease was increased three times in comparison with those who rarely felt sleepy.

“Excessive daytime sleepiness and poor night sleep in elderly people may signal the development of Alzheimer’s disease”, – stated in the summary of the researchers.
