Origins Just Dropped Two New Lipsticks Made With REAL Flowers

Origins, the brand behind some of our favorite skin-care picks, just became even further rooted in our affections with the launch of two new gorgeous lipstick collections.

Available starting today, the Blooming Bold Lipstick and Blooming Sheer Lip Balm collections are not just inspired by flowers (which many lipsticks from the past have been), but they're also made with flowers. Specifically, both formulas are crafted from reclaimed flower waxes, the buttery byproduct perfumeries produce when extracting scented oils from your favorite blooms. “We discovered that the natural waxes in flowers are vital to the protection and overall health of its petals, making them ideal ingredients to help protect lips from dehydration,” Lizz Starr, executive director of Origins global product development, said in a statement. “Secondly, these flower-based waxes have a melting point close to human body temperature, which allows for a smooth, effortless application.” Each tube contains the power of 12 flowers, incorporating ingredients from seed to stem including skin softening oils and petal perfected scents.

This is major news for Origins, which for the past three years has been out of the color cosmetics game entirely.

The lip color comeback was well worth the wait, according to Allure’s deputy digital beauty director, Sophia Panych. “The lipsticks are incredibly soft and creamy. They feel like butter — the stuff in the jar, not the stick — as you spread it across your lips and you get full, opaque color in just one swipe,” she says. “It's seriously impressive.” The naturally-derived moisturizing formula also keeps lips hydrated for six full hours thanks in part to the inclusion of cruelty-free wildflower and lavender honey, which has an additional benefit of giving the lipstick a gorgeous natural-looking sheen once it sets.

The bold line of lipsticks includes 24 shades blended with whole crushed flowers (rose, lavender, jasmine, and hibiscus). We’re particular fans of Wild Flower, a subdued magenta hue; Poppy Pout, a classic, blue-toned red; Crimson Calla Lily, a plum shade with red undertones; Merlot Moonflower, the exact shade of a good glass of red wine; Black Tulip, an ultra-rich blackened berry shade; and Tiger Lily, a punchy orange with the teeniest hint of red.

The Blooming Sheer Lip Balm is similarly awesome, according to our tests. “It feels super hydrating, but not so slippery that the color just slips off of your lips,” says Panych. With only eight sheer shades, the balm is definitely more curated, though it doesn’t feel limited. Our favorites: Honey Blush, a “your lips but better” shade; Fuchsia Fields, the sheerest hint of bright berry; Night Bloom, a noir take on cherry (and the spitting image of fan-favorite Clinique's Black Honey); Totally Tulip, a more intensely pigmented cherry red; and Coral Daisy, a bright wash of orange-y red.

All eight shades are infused with geranium and rose oils for a lovely floral scent.
