Lancôme Is Bringing Back Its Discontinued Rose-Shaped Highlighter — But There's a Catch

UPDATE (August 21, 2018 at 5 p.m.): When Lancôme first dropped its limited-edition, now discontinued La Rôse a Poudrer, it was an instant hit — especially among those with an affinity for all things rose. It became one of the most coveted products from the legacy brand's Spring 2017 collection, as everyone and their mother wanted to try out the rose-shaped illuminator surfacing all over Instagram. Unfortunately, the original powder didn't become a part of its permanent collection. But, because Lancôme knows how widely beloved the highlighter was, it went ahead and brought us a brand-new version, this time in gold.

Everyone's go-to Instagram beauty source, @trendmood1, broke the news late last night, posting a shot with two photos of the not-yet-released powder, which unlike the original, comes encased in a gold, '50s-style box and features a gilded rose. The excited caption reads, "@lancomeofficial is bringing back the #LaRoseParisian #Powder BUT in a golden shade ???✨," adding a hashtag to indicate that the pretty product will be a "#LimitedEdition highlighting powder."

Naturally, Lancôme fans went wild over the unexpected announcement, replying with comments such as "I need this in my life!!" and "I was so sad when I missed the first one. THIS. I AM getting this! Isn’t the packaging pretty? ?"

Taking a closer look at the Instagram shot, which came from @shanowroozi's Instagram Stories, you can see it says it's for Lancôme's holiday collection. This means, sadly, it won't be hitting shelves for quite a few months. That being said, you know we'll keep you updated as soon as we get word on an official launch date.

The original La Rôse a Poudrer came in a full rose-themed collection and retailed for $60, so it's safe to assume this version will be around the same price. For now, enjoy this sneak peek, and we'll be sure to update you along the way.

When I first laid eyes on the new Lancôme La Rose a Poudrer, I was instantly obsessed. As one of almost a dozen women in my family with Rose in their names, I'm basically genetically predisposed to love all things rose. (I'm Devon Rose Abelman, for the rosy record.) This is included but not limited to rose gold makeup brushes and dusty rose-hued lipstick. This month, Lancôme's gorgeous rose-shaped highlighter is launching, and it's already blowing up Instagram.

If you haven't see it yet, let me break down its beauty. A super soft and delicate faux rose with illuminating powder-infused petals sits inside a '50s-style hat box. (It's smaller than an actual hat box, unless the hat was for, like, a very chic mouse.) But unlike the undulating wave pattern on Milani's pretty palettes that we told you about earlier today, the shape of the rose doesn't fade away with use. Instead, the rose stays completely intact, in all its ruffled glory, no matter how many times you dip your blush brush into it. I'm slightly convinced Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli came back to life to design the Lancôme La Rose a Poudrer. I swear it has their shared artistry written all over it.

To use the rose-shaped highlighter, all you have to do is swirl your brush atop the petals in a circular motion, which coats the bristles in just the right amount of the finely milled powder. Then, you brush it on your face as you would with any other standard, flat powder highlighter. After that, you can take all of the flat lays with it. Here's a video of it in action:

You'll be able to shop the Lancôme La Rose a Poudrer for $60 on lancome-usa.com later this month, along with several other rose-themed products, including a kabuki brush, and some new shades of Lancôme Juicy Shaker Lip Oil. The collection is limited edition, so everything won't be coming up roses at Lancôme counters forever. Needless to say, we suggest adding the highlighter to your cart while you can.
